Collaboration to Strenghten our Community

The Marin County Department of Health and Human Services as well as the Marin Child Abuse Prevention Council, both significant leaders in child abuse prevention in the County, collaborated to form the Marin Family Strengthening Network (FSN) in 2010. The cornerstone of the network is to provide leadership, support, coordination and training to family-serving agencies in Marin based on the Strengthening Families Five Protective Factors model. This is accomplished through bi-monthly meetings, training forums, an online county resource guide and resource/referral base.

The Strengthening Families Model - Five Protective Factors

Research shows that the following protective factors reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect by providing parents with what they need to parent effectively, even under times of stress. By building relationships with families, programs can recognize signs of stress and build families’ Protective Factors with timely, effective help.

  • Parental resilience
  • Social connections
  • Knowledge of parenting and child development
  • Concrete support in times of need
  • Children’s social and emotional development
